Thinner & Lighter Lenses are much more comfortable and cosmetically more pleasing, especially by reducing edge thickness. Tints and specialty coatings may be added to further enhance the lenses function and appearance.

Photochromatic Lenses (most notably, "Transitions") will darken outdoors depending on the amount of sunlight exposure, and will lighten indoors away from sunlight.

Anti-reflective Coatings reduce glare and "ghost" images from computer screens, oncoming headlights at night, overhead lighting, and the resulting eyestrain from all the above.

Ultraviolet Coating can filter out harmful UV rays from sunlight and can be applied to most all lenses. Some researchers think UV rays may be partly responsible for cataracts.
