Eye Diseases
and Conditions:
Cataracts are a clouding or whitening of part or all of the
lens inside the eye (which should be totally clear). Cataracts
usually appear in people over 55 to 60 years of age; but,
occasionally they occur in younger people. A cararact as it is
maturing appears somewhat as represented in the
photo.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of
blindness and is due to an increase in the eye’s intraocular
pressure. This increase in pressure results from a blockage in the
eye’s fluid drainage passages. A high and prolonged pressure slowly
damages the eye which can result in blindness. If diagnosed early
glaucoma can be well controlled with virtually no loss in
vision. If not caught early there is a peripheral loss of
vision as represented in the photo.
