Cataracts are a clouding or whitening of part or all of the lens inside the eye (which should be totally clear). Cataracts usually appear in people over 55 to 60 years of age; but occasionally they occur in younger people. There are various types of cataracts depending on their location and effect on vision. The photo below somewhat represents how one sees with a moderate cataract.
